About the Position

An Emergency Service Registered Nurse at Lifespan focuses on providing care to pediatric patients suffering from trauma or other illnesses that require emergency attention. You must be able to recognize and treat life-threatening conditions in addition to being able to rapidly assess and treat patients in critical situations. In this role, you will need to work at maximum efficiency without compromising quality of care, especially when under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care
  • Provide leadership by delegating, supervising, and participating in safe nursing care activities provided by ancillary personnel
  • Evaluate effectiveness of patient care and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team, patients and their families, and community services for patient care outcome and discharge planning
  • Assess and provide appropriate education based on the patient and family needs
  • Participate in unit-based quality improvement and research activities
  • Utilize all available resources to provide quality, cost-effective patient care
  • Identify growth needs and participate in educational opportunities and professional organizations
  • Serve as a role model or preceptor to new graduate nurses and less experienced personnel
  • May at times be required to float from the pediatric and adult emergency rooms based on patient census

Key Results

  • Show care and compassion for a wide pediatric age range and cultural backgrounds
  • Determine priority of care based on physical, psychological, and social needs as well as other factors influencing patient flow 
  • Care for patients on cardiac monitors, those with respiratory issues, and those with life threatening medical issues or traumatic injuries
  • Perform focused assessments of chief complaints of each patient in a timely manner
  • Care for the patient from arrival to admission or facilitate timely discharges

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Rhode Island
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN), preferred
  • Certified Wound Nurse, preferred
    • Certified Wound Specialist (CWS)
    • American Board of Wound Management certification
    • Certified Wound Ostomy and Continence Nurse (CWOCN)
  • 2 years of clinical experience in medical surgical nursing, ambulatory nursing, or surgical services in a hospital setting
  • Experience in a high-volume outpatient setting, preferred
