About the Position
A Surgical Registered Nurse at Lifespan works alongside doctors, surgeons, and other members of the surgical team to ensure patients receive the best possible care and outcome. During surgical procedures, you will take on the duties of either a scrub nurse or circulating nurse. Following the procedure, you will provide intensive nursing care to post-operative patients when you are assigned to the post-anesthesia area. Due to the intense nature of surgical procedures, this role will require you to be a quick thinker and able to remain calm under pressure.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care
- Review patient charts, administer medications, start IVs, and other necessary complex or routine treatments as prescribed by physician or necessitated by patient condition
- Initiate or participate in life-saving procedures, including CPR when necessary
- Participate in planning and implementation of nursing care plan for assigned patients
- Utilize professional judgement to evaluate appropriateness of planned or prescribed treatments based on patient's current condition
- Modify treatment or contact physicians as circumstances require
- Review patient charts to ensure pertinent information, such as lab reports and operative permits, are readily available
- Ensure all pre-operative medications and orders are carried out
Key Results
- Assist during surgical procedures by preparing instruments, equipment, and supplies
- Scrub or Circulate on cases
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon while maintaining sterile techniques
- Apply dressings, administer medication, and provide total nursing care
- Check stability of vital signs and continually observe patients
- Determine when patient's condition is stable and release to designated hospital area
- Maintain records and charts of pertinent information regarding the patient's condition

Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Rhode Island
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN), preferred
- 1 year of experience as a member of surgical team
